Anna Sperber is a Brooklyn- based awarded choreographer and performer. She is an advocate for dance accessibility and co-founded CLASSCLASSCLASS, designed to nurture new dance teachers while offering reduced class rates. She also founded and ran BRAZIL and Sunset Space, intimate studio and performance spaces in Brooklyn.

Her performances are rooted in the poetic potency of choreography and its potential for perceptual transformation. She creates performances that experiment with choreographic form, situating mystery, animality, and aggression within the feminine. She delves into somatic experiences and the fleshy reality of embodiment within our larger social and cultural contexts. Enacting a tension between formal clarity and chaotic wildness, each site-responsive work orients the architecture of the visceral, moving body inside the physical architecture of the space. Interdisciplinary collaborations are crucial to her work, integrating visual and sonic landscapes with moving bodies.

During their residency with Dance Initiative, Anna Sperber and Company will be working on solos and duets for a new evening length piece. Anna’s solo is envisioned as both an invitation and a personal map, will explore her body’s journey through time, embracing change as a creative catalyst. This piece will also chart the performance space, navigating the performer’s realm and the audience’s shared experience.

Dance Initiative is honored to inspire, educate, and spark new (and renewed) appreciation for dance while adding rich and unique cultural experiences to the mountain towns from Glenwood Springs to Aspen, Colorado.
